Description
Astrophytum Asterias Cv. Goryo Kikko Nudum “5 Ribs Durian” is a powerful and highly sculptural cultivar, combining pronounced structural mutation with a clean, trichome-free surface.
The Goryo Kikko expression in asterias is defined by strong horizontal segmentation along the ribs, forming thick, rounded sections that resemble a turtle shell. In this “Durian” type, these segments become bold, inflated, and deeply defined, creating a rugged, almost armored appearance.
This particular form maintains a classic 5-rib structure, but each rib is divided into large, protruding segments that give the plant its signature “durian-like” look—chunky, raised, and full of depth. As with Kikko Type B expressions, the segmentation appears irregular rather than perfectly uniform, adding natural variation and character.
The nudum trait removes most trichomes, exposing the smooth green epidermis and allowing the full structure to stand out clearly. Without surface flecking, the eye is drawn entirely to the plant’s form, volume, and geometry.
As the plant matures, the ribs become thicker and more exaggerated, enhancing the three-dimensional, sculptural quality that makes this cultivar so desirable.
